Tips and Tools for Small Business Leaders
April 2021

We’ve all been through a lot this past year. Your team needs to know you’ve got their backs now more than ever. Doing a little planning for your people post pandemic might be a worthwhile activity.

Whatever the effects the pandemic has had on your business, now that we’re moving forward, we can take a step back and check in on our plan for our business’ future.

Your people are surely wondering about the future.

  • What’s changed? What stayed the same?
  • How have Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats changed?
  • Do you have updated financial predictions?
  • How have operations and processes changed?
  • What needs to change about staffing to support the changed environment?

What do your people need from you most right now?

In the 2021 2nd quarter Growth Plan Workshop we’re doing a deep dive into the book Extraordinary Influence by Dr. Tim Irwin. It talks about the brain science and the extraordinary impact of affirmation vs feedback (also known not-so-fondly as "constructive criticism"). We’ll share examples of how leaders have transformed the lives of their team members by affirming vs criticizing. We’ll give examples of how to you can motivate people intrinsically by connecting their work to their aspirations.

Everything springs from your Single Sheet Business Plan

If strengthening the connection between your employees work and their aspirations is one of the goals you place on your Single Sheet Business Plan, as Dr. Irwin suggests, we can help you flesh out the actions that you and your team can take to insure it happens.

Join us at the April 15 Growth Plan Workshop and walk away with your plan, all on a single sheet of paper. In this 6-hour group setting with other small business owners and leaders, our coaches will spend one-on-one time with you, ask you the right questions, and give you the advice you need to walk away with a completed Single Sheet Business Plan and a 90-day Action Plan to jumpstart it.

Register for the next Growth Plan Workshop either in-person or virtually.

This is a great opportunity to step back for a day and do some planning for your people post pandemic, think through the impacts the pandemic has had on your business and your people, and regain that pre-pandemic confidence.

The Minimalist Approach Applied to Your Business
Much is written lately about the benefits of living a minimalist life and about living simply. More and more people favor this intentional approach to paring down… paring down activities and material possessions.

You can see simple living evidenced in home décor, finances, art, cooking, home size, media use, and the “capsule” wardrobe. But what about in your small business?

There’s something to be said for the benefits--less stress, more calm, and peace of mind. There are also some benefits to living more simply in the world of your business too. The ones we like are:

-- The ability to react to employees with calm and caring
-- Kinder words
-- More space in your brain for creativity and problem-solving
-- Sharper instincts
-- Increased peace of mind

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Simplifying is a personal thing. We hope the list below will give you a good sense of some areas you want to simplify:

-- Declutter. Clear your desktop and drawers of non-essentials like those 13 extra pens and 3 rulers. Our physical space is symbolic of our mental space. Moreover, decluttering  creates more room!
-- Find a place for everything and put everything in its place. It cuts down on time spent searching for things.
Simplify your files, physical and online.
-- Stop multi-tasking and focus on one task at a time. It promotes a sense of calmness.
-- Take even just 5 minutes to walk or meditate or stretch or simply to do nothing.
-- Check messages only at certain times instead of constantly.
Without goals and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination.” - Fitzhugh Dodson
